This month’s meeting of the Sydney Windows User Group is coming up this Wednesday 9^th June 2010 and will be covering the latest Microsoft and related news, the official launch of AuTechHeads and the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. Office 2010 is now available to businesses and will be in shops on the 15th of June. In this session see Office, Visio, Project and SharePoint 2010 capabilities and hear about what organisations are already doing with the 2010 platform

Alistair Speirs will show how you can increase your productivity with Office 2010 including accessing important information through Office Web Apps and Office Mobile.

Jeff Alexander, ‘The’ IT Pro Evangelist at Microsoft Australia, will give us an overview of Windows Intune including the advanced tools for troubleshooting, security policy configuration, and virtualization that you can download and run in your environment.

Thanks to the organisers of the Australian SharePoint Conference both the Sydney Business & Technology User Group and the Sydney Windows User Group have a ticket each (total of 2) to giveaway! So after talking with Craig Bailey, we have decided to hold a joint competition to giveaway the two tickets. The tickets are valued at $650 each and will give you full access to the conference.

To be in the running to win the ticket simply write a blog post about why you would like to attend the conference (eg to learn about a particular new feature in SharePoint 2010), include a link to the conference site, and email Craig a link to your post. Craig Bailey and I will be choosing the winner in mid-May.

AuTechHeads is an exciting new group that focuses on geeks rather than individual technologies. We’re excited to host the official launch of the AuTechHeads website, and Matt will talk about how easy it is to join (and free!), and how you can get involved and contribute!

The session will focus on the Microsoft Desktop Optimization pack for management and deployment. We will begin by discussing challenges that IT Professionals experience in deploying applications and managing desktop systems. Then we will discuss solutions around the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack offerings that simplify deployment and management while reducing IT costs. We will explore Microsoft Application Virtualization for Windows 7 clients to deploy applications on demand.
